This wooden post adapter/extender is great to use if you need a projection for your knob/finial.

It has a projection of 3.875" but can be cut down slightly, if necessary.

This post can be used to attach a window treatment to the wall.  Just screw your finial onto the end.

The hole in the end accepts most finial screws.
