This tuffet has a two-tied circular skirt with a boxed cushion top.  We used our pre-cut 16" wide x 17" tall.  If you don't want to cut your own base we now have our Tuffet Kits available at here.
Use pattern above for cutting.  Seam allowances are included.   The Tuffet Kit available at www.patemeadows.com and includes the pre-cut Round Tuffet Base, the full-size pattern pieces shown above, instruction booklet, 4" round foam, batting, piping to cover and tacking strip are available here or by calling us at 205-424-1770.

Placing the skirt pattern on the fold, cut out the bottom skirt layer

Cut off 3" from the skirt pattern and cut the top layer.  Be sure to place the pattern on the fold.

Pin the cushion top pattern onto fabric and cut.  The seam allowances have been added to the pattern.

Cut the fabric to cover the piping on the bias.  We use
4/32" piping and cut our pieces about  1-3/4" wide.  Cut
enough to go around the bottom of the skirts as well as the top and bottom of the cushion.

Apply piping to the cushion top.  See "Apply Piping Like a Pro" in our Tips & Techniques section of our website.  Add additional trim or fringe at this point,  if desired.

Press seam open and divide the band into 4 equal sections.

Divide the cushion top into 4 equal sections.

With right sides together, pin the band to the cushion top, matching up the markings on the band and the marking on the cushion top.

Stitch the band to the cushion top using a 1/2" seam allowance.

Using batting (we use 1" thick), cut out the cushion top 16" diameter.  Cut a piece of batting for the band that is 52"x 4".  Batting is available at www.patemeadows.com.

Serge or straight stitch the band to the cushion top.

Using 4" thick foam, cut it 16" diameter.  Slip the batting over the foam.

Slipstitch the batting in place with a needle and thread.

Slide the foam into the cushion top.

We spray foam adhesive on the bottom of the foam at this point but it is optional.

Staple the bottom of the cushion top to the bottom of the stool.

Add additional trim or fringe, if desired, by stapling.

Staple piping on next.

Staple the top skirt layer next, placing the right side down

Staple the bottom layer skirt next, right side down

Staplecardboard tacking strip next, lining up the outer edge with the edge of the particle board.  This gives you a rigid edge.   Cardboard tacking strip is available from www.patemeadows.com.
